tion Indians ranging south from their Indian Territory reservations . To frontier Texans , the U . S . government seemed inept in its feeble attempts to keep their charges on reservation and away from pioneer settlements , farms and ranches . First called Prairie Hill for its situation on the edge of the great rolling grasslands of the Grand Prairie , Mary ’ s Creek took its name from a local intermittent creek named for a “ Christianized Indian ” woman who drowned there . Mary ’ s Creek rises about 3 miles north of Willow Park and drifts southeasterly for 14-andone-half miles before emptying into the Clear Fork of the Trinity River just inside Fort Worth ’ s city limits .
CLEAR FORK Another old-time community was Clear Fork , located near the north end of current Lake Weatherford . The community was first called Power after the first postmaster James C . Power , and later , after Clear Fork , Dicey , after the pioneer wife of one W . G . Puryear . The post office opened in 1860 and operated for the Confederacy , finally closing its doors two years after the war in 1867 . Today , Dicey Road winds along the north side of Weatherford offering shaded views but little hint of the area ’ s pioneer past .
