mechanic, he could do it all —
change oil, check your brakes, and
whatever Don asked him to do. After
working at the same place with the
same people for 16 years, it becomes
a part of you. “It’s like home. I spend
a lot of time here. Just being around
Don is like home. It’s the people, not
the building that makes it home,”
Boyd said. His best days on the job
were when he was making money;
worst days were when he wasn’t
making money. The question is, what
is next for Boyd? “I have no idea. I
really have no idea at all,” he said.
He is looking for any kind of job that
will give him a steady paycheck.
About five years ago Boyd was
diagnosed with colon cancer. Then
something amazing happened. The
community came to his rescue. “They
really pulled through for me, because
I was out of work. Insured for nothing. I took their money and paid my
medical bills. They took care of all
that for me,” Boyd said. With the
help of Parker County, he was victorious in his battle with cancer. Boyd
can’t thank the people enough who
helped him get a second chance at
life.
Businesses like Don’s Chevron
and people like Don Carney and
Boyd Bush help make Weatherford
a great community. Parker County
hasn’t been the same since Don
closed his doors for the last time in
late June. Don’s Chevron cared for
its customers like they’d care for
members of their family while doing
what they did best which, of course,
was working on cars and helping
spread the love of Weatherford and
Parker County.
