PARKER COUNTY AG Dave Marcath Aledo Ag Teacher I n Parker County, with so many opportunities to work with animals and the community, it’s no surprise that so many students are interested in Ag and FFA. Dave Marcath, the Ag teacher at Aledo, describes how he came to be involved at the school. “I had an Ag background as a kid, and Aledo was in need of an Ag teacher to fill in for a short period of time … they were looking for a new Ag teacher, and I kind of jumped in,” he said. “I didn’t know it was going to be for this long. Sure glad to be here.” When students are involved in Ag, many doors are opened for them in a variety of opportunities. “Ag is FFA and Ag come together. We train kids in vocational education, so some kids are trained in metal workshop, wood work. I train kids on the animal science side ... we work with kids through FFA to help animal projects, be involved in judgement teams, public speaking, leadership, kind of all those areas,” Marcath said.
