didn’t care if it took five years as long
as I can survive. But at least it will be
up to me if I make it.”
He completed farrier’s school and
apprenticed with David Edens for
four years, riding along with him and
learning everything he could.
“I was very fortunate because
maybe three months out of horseshoeing school a guy out of Graham,
Texas, contacted me and asked if I’d
like to work with him. I didn’t know
the opportunity that was in front of
me at the time. The first two years it
was about two to three days a week
and the last year and a half it tapered
off to one to two days a week,” he
said. “I was very fortunate. I went
right into working with him. I mean
he was shoeing, still does, a lot of
these top cutting horses around and
I was working on horses that were
some of the best in the world. You

- Why I Serve -
As you may know, a Trustee receives no compensation, and the service we provide is
often difficult, sometimes even contentious. Given this, I am often asked why I serve.
I serve because:
• I have a desire to give back to a community that has given so much to my family and me.
• I want to affect the futures of all students and believe that a District that provides
opportunities for all students helps foster future success and improves our community.
• I want to continue honoring and thanking teachers, coaches, and staff by ensuring
their compensation is competitive.
