Car Seat Checks
Thanks to everyone that came along to the free car seat checks at New World Te Rapa last month during Parents Centre Week.
Belle from Baby on the Move did a great job for us checking the car seats. Out of the 20 seats she checked only 4 seats were installed correctly, that’ s only 20 %!
The most common fault was loose seat belts and no locking clips. She found 2 seats that were totally unsuitable for the car, the car seat belts weren’ t long enough to install child’ s seat correctly.
One of the cars required an anchor bolt to be installed for the top tether. The checks highlighted that it’ s not just enough to have a seat for your child to be safe; you also need to ensure that it’ s fitted correctly. There were a number of committee members that took advantage of the free checks, and I know that I feel so much better now knowing that my daughter’ s seat is fitted correctly. If you missed getting your car seat checked, you can still get them done by BOTM, for $ 15, a small price to pay to ensure your kids are safe!
We had some great support over the course of the day, with Kidicorp staff manning the BBQ for us, Iguana Restaurant supplying the BBQ and transport, and New World Te Rapa for the location. We had
some great raffle prizes up for grabs, thanks to the wonderful support of local and national businesses who generously gave us prizes for our raffles.
A big thank you goes out to those who supported us, we really appreciate your support of our centre! And a big congratulations to the winners of the raffles... we’ re sure they’ ll be enjoying their basket of goodies.

Volunteers Wanted!
Our centre is run entirely by volunteers and we are on the search for a few more people to join our team.... could that person be you?
Volunteering is a great way to meet new parents, do something different and give back to your community.
If one of these roles sounds like you, or you would just like to be a general helper we’ d love to hear from you.
Mini Rockers Facilitator We are still keen to hear from anyone who would like to help us facilitate our Mini Rockers Music classes on Wednesday and Friday( 10am).
We will give you full support from our current volunteers and if we have a few people interested we can work on a roster system so you don’ t have to be there every week.
You can bring your kids along with you to join in the fun... it’ s a great way to meet new mums, and a way to give back to your community. You don’ t have to a be a member of the centre to do it, so maybe you know someone that might be interested, a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or friend.
Contact us at hpc. minirockers @ gmail. com for more information or pop along to a class to check it out for yourself.
