Note from the Editors
Welcome to Paren(thesis) Magazine. This first edition is the "Maiden Voyage," setting sail into a magazine dedicated to the work of women writers and artists. Paren(thesis) is about looking beyond what is given to find the true meaning. All of the authors in the "Maiden Voyage" have done just that. Now it is up to you to do your part.
Paren(thesis) has a tiny bit of everything, from the previously published to those just beginning to stick their necks out of the water and see what is out there. All of the poems and stories found in Paren(thesis) were written by women. The visual artwork from our female artists was selected to make you slightly uncomfortable, like spilling water on your lap and having to wear the wet jeans until they dry. Being uncomfortable makes you aware of the problem, and being aware makes you try to think of a solution. Paren(thesis) was uncomfortable with the fact that male writers publish almost five times as much as their female counterparts, and being uncomfortable made us think of a solution.
That solution is Paren(thesis): Maiden Voyage.
