UCPS students to commemorate those who died on 9 / 11
It ’ s a date no American will ever forget ; Sept . 11 , 2001 , the day the United States was attacked by terrorists resulting in the deaths of 3,000 people , and injury to more than 6,000 .
The images of the two planes crashing into the twin World Trade Towers in New York City and the devastation that followed have been permanently etched into memory around the world .
Like schools across America , Union County Public Schools students will payed tribute to those who lost their lives on that tragic day , not only honoring those who died , but also making sure that future generations never forget .
Shiloh Elementary School will had a Hero Day on Friday , Sept . 9 . Students and teachers gathered in the school ’ s cafeteria where local law enforcement , firefighters and safety officers were honored during lunches .
Students had the opportunity to interact with the visiting emergency personnel , and thank them for their service in keeping the community safe .
The school ’ s celebration also payed tribute to the 343 firefighters , 60 police officers and eight paramedics who died when the Twin Towers fell .
Sun Valley Middle School students showed their heart-felt tribute to those who perished on 9 / 11 by placing hundreds of American flags in the shape of a heart on the school ’ s track .
Students at Sun Valley Middle School made a large heart of small American flags in front of their school in honor of those who lost their lives on 9 / 11 .
During homeroom on Sept . 12 , students at Forest Hills High School had a first-hand look at what their teachers remember about 9 / 11 . Those memories and observations will be shared during a brief video that will be shown during homeroom .
The school chorus performed patriotic music , while the JROTC did a Presentation of Colors . The chorus sang America the Beautiful and the Star Spangled Banner , accompanied by the school ’ s band . Students were asked to wear red , white and blue to show their patriotism .
