Kensington Elementary earns national 21st Century Learning Exemplar distinction
Congratulations to Kensington
Elementary for earning the 21st
Century Learning Exemplar
distinction from Partnership for 21st
Century Learning (P21)!
Since 2013, P21 has annually
designated 21st Century Learning
Exemplars based on exceptional
implementation of the Framework for
21st Century Learning.
This year, Kensington Elementary
was one of only 18 schools in
the nation to be recognized for
outstanding practices in equipping
learners with the necessary skills
and knowledge for success in
college, career and life. Kensington
Elementary was also one of only
two schools in the state to receive
this distinction.
To earn the 21st Century Learning
Exemplar recognition, schools
must show how 21st century skills
are embedded in daily instruction.
During the application process,
which included a site visit in October, Kensington Elementary
successfully showcased its emphasis on global learning, use of

“Kensington Elementary is a school
of global studies and has the vision of
equipping students with the necessary
skills and knowledge for success in
college, career and life. We’ve done
this through the incorporation of
global themes, the UN Sustainable
Development Goals, the emphasis
on character education, and the
beginning stages of implementation of
EmpowerED,” Kensington Elementary
Principal Dr. Rachel Clarke said. “I
am very proud of our staff and our
students for receiving this recognition.
This has been a two-year process and
it’s exciting to reach our goal.”
As part of celebrating best
practices from the awardees, Battelle
for Kids will develop a case study brief
for each exemplar site and release
it to the public for free download.
Kensington Elementary, along with the 17 other exemplar sites,
will also be recognized in Washington, D.C. in April.
