UCPS opens lottery for 2019-2020 school year with new academic options On Feb. 8, Union County Public Schools (UCPS) opened its lottery process for elementary school choice, dual language immersion, the International Baccalaureate Pathway Program at Marvin Ridge High and Central Academy of Technology & Arts. Below are brief descriptions of each choice option and information about the application process, deadlines and contact information. will remain in effect until the terminal grade in that school location (i.e. 5th, 8th and 12th). Transportation is not provided for students who accept a transfer through School Choice. The application deadline is March 31. Elementary School Choice Through this option, parents may apply for submission through lottery to 14 schools that have been identified for school choice. These schools were chosen after evaluating school capacity and current and ongoing enrollment numbers. The elementary schools of choice for 2019-2020 are Fairview, Hemby Bridge, Marshville, Porter Ridge, Prospect, Rocky River, Shiloh, Stallings, Sun Valley, Union, Walter Bickett, Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel and Western Union. To apply, parents should visit the UCPS website, click on School Choice and complete an online application through Scribbles. This rigorous academic program supports bilingualism, biliteracy and cross-cultural awareness in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. In order to apply for the DLI lottery, parents must first enroll their child in kindergarten at their home school, then complete an online application through Scribbles. Parents may apply for the DLI Program at the following elementary schools: Antioch, East, Kensington, Marshville, Marvin, Poplin, Shiloh, Sun Valley, Unionville, Walter Bickett Elementary, Weddington and Western Union. The application deadline is March 31. International Baccalaureate Pathway Program at Marvin Ridge High School UCPS is offering a new option for all rising ninth graders for the 2019-2020 school year. Eligible students may apply for admission to the International Baccalaureate Pathway Program at Marvin Ridge High School. This program is designed to prepare students who are interested in pursuing the IB Diploma Programme later in high school. To apply, parents should visit the UCPS website, click on School Choice and complete an online application through Scribbles. Transportation is provided for students who are accepted into this program. The application deadline is March 31. Central Academy of Technology & Arts Central Academy of Technology & Arts is accepting applications for next school year. Central Academy of Technology & Arts is a comprehensive magnet high school that incorporates rigorous academic and technical education, using an innovative academy concept that emphasizes experiential learning, relevant internships, community involvement, technical, artistic, and academic integration.
