Artists open doors for education and
art appreciation in western Union County
May 2 and 3 will be an historic weekend
as more than 40 area artists will open their
doors to the public to educate and promote art
appreciation in Union County.
This free, open studio tour will be set all
within five miles of downtown Waxhaw,
including Marvin, Wesley Chapel, Mineral
Springs, and Weddington. The tour runs from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from noon
to 5 p.m. on Sunday. There is a preview night
and fundraiser, open to the public, Friday May
1 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Waxhaw
Woman’s Club, 200 E. South Main Street in
downtown Waxhaw.
There will be maps and brochures available
at several downtown Waxhaw businesses, as
well as at each studio on the tour and on the
Waxhaw Arts Council website and Facebook
page.
Patterned after events like the Asheville
River Arts District Stroll, this local event
first held last spring was a stellar success.
“This is a great opportunity for us to educate
the public not only on all types of art like
painting, pottery and jewelry, but also to bring
awareness of just what a rich and diversified
art culture we have developing here in western
Union County,” said Lambeth Marshall,
president of the Waxhaw Arts Council.
Organizers of the event expect another
tremendous turnout and plan to run the artists
tours each spring hereafter.
