Cuthbertson High wins $25,000 grant to boost teen driver safety

The leading cause of teen
death for the past 30 years
has been car accidents. Armed
with this frightening statistic,
Cuthbertson High School decided
to participate in a nationwide
teen safe driving program
that ultimately won the school
$25,000.
Cuthbertson is one of 100
schools across the nation (out of
3,283 that applied) to receive the
grant money from State Farm.
The State Farm “Celebrate My
Drive” campaign was held during
U.S. National Teen Driver Safety
Week (Oct. 15-24).
“Our amazing Cuthbertson
community really came together
to commit to this campaign,” said
Cuthbertson principal Kim Warr.
“In addition to our students and
staff supporting this initiative, we
also reached out to our cluster
schools, community businesses,
and even area home owner
associations. Everyone’s support
and dedication to making our
community safer is what helped
us reach our goal.”

Warr said that funds will be used for student and staff initiatives,
instructional resources, and safe driving programs.
Celebrate My Drive promotes responsible driving practices like
2N2®: 2 eyes on the road and 2 hands on the wheel. It’s a simple
habit that can reduce distracted driving and help new drivers build
confidence on the road.
According to State Farm, the Celebrate My Drive program
engages teens and the adults who influence them, to have
supportive and positive conversations about safe driving.
“State Farm is proud of Cuthbertson’s efforts to generate
excitement among students, faculty and the entire community to
make safe driving commitments and have positive conversations
about teen driver safety,” said State Farm Agent Wil Brooks in
a statement. “We appreciate all of the wonderful support of the
program to help reduce teen crashes and save lives.”
Wil Brooks State Farm and Wally Moore State Farm agencies
were on hand to present the $25,000 check to Cuthbertson High
School.
