14 UCPS schools receive grants to promote and support arts education
Fourteen UCPS schools recently received Arts in Schools grants for projects that promote and support arts education and / or instruction for students .
Provided by the Union County Community Arts Council , the annual Arts in Schools Grants are designed to serve the cultural needs of students through a wide range of classroom activities , programs and services .
Congratulations to the following schools that received Arts in Schools grants ranging from $ 231 to $ 500 :
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS Rocky River Elementary received $ 500 that will be used to purchase seven drums for music classes .
Wesley Chapel Elementary received $ 500 that will be used to purchase Quaver Curriculum , a comprehensive set of engaging and interactive curriculum resources that address musical concepts , vocabulary and skills .
Prospect Elementary received $ 478 that will be used to take students on a field trip to the Mint Museum in Charlotte .
Provided by the Union County Community Arts Council , the annual Arts in Schools Unionville Elementary received $ 300 that
Grants are designed to serve the cultural needs of students through a wide range Broadway Bob , the school ’ s choral group , will use to of classroom activities , programs and services . perform songs from the musical “ Annie ”.
Shiloh Elementary received $ 231 that will go towards wooden set construction for the school ’ s theatre productions .
Poplin Elementary received $ 500 that will go towards the creation of totem poles that will be displayed at the school . Weddington Elementary received $ 500 that will go towards the purchase of Makey Makey STEM Classroom Invention Literacy Pack Electronic Systems , an invention kit that inspires student learning and creativity through art , engineering and more .
New Salem Elementary received $ 387 that will go towards the purchase plastic cups to be used in an art installation in the school ’ s chain link fence .
Benton Heights Elementary received $ 500 that will go towards the purchase of four violins for the school ’ s music library .
MIDDLE SCHOOLS Porter Ridge Middle received two $ 250 grants that will go towards a music workshop and an art and sculpture garden . Monroe Middle received a $ 500 grant that will go towards theatre tracking curtains .
HIGH SCHOOLS Central Academy of Technology & Arts received $ 500 that will be used for a Master Musicians workshop . Cuthbertson High received $ 500 that will be used for a
CD recording of the school ’ s Blue Notes Winds band . Union County Early College received two $ 500 that will support the school ’ s Tonality glee club and a robotic arts initiative .
