Summer Camp at Horizons Unlimited Our unique STEM center, Horizons Unlimited, leads by their mission of "Empowering our communities to explore science and the natural world.” This summer there were many opportunities for students to do just that! Numerous camps were available for students of all ages to attend and explore over the summer months such as: n Culinary Camps
where students learned the basics of food safety, baking, knife skills, and planning meals all while having a BLAST while working with the experts of Rowan-Salisbury Schools Food Service department and local restaurateurs. n Advanced Coding Camp where students learned how to create computer programs and to dive deep into the language that they use daily with their cell phone and computers. Students worked with drones, robots and game design. n Creative Arts in the Community where students explored the community through the lens of the creative arts. Students integrated visual arts and writing, enjoyed field trips in our local community, and learned the basics of photography. n Art Exploration Camp where students explored painting, sculpting and mixed media. They learned various techniques for painting, new ways to create images, and enjoyed a field trip to a NC art gallery. n Out and About Season 3 continu ed with the ecology camp theme. Students explored the outdoors with active movement, art, and a brand-new touch tank! n K-2 Kids Coding Camp
where students learned the basics of coding before they worked with a variety of robots in design and team challenges. 2018 NCMEA Honor Administrator Congratulations to Kelly Feimster, RSS Director for Instructional Programs, for being the recipient of the "2018 NCMEA Honor Administrator” award recognition presented by the NC Music Educators Association (NCMEA). The award honors a school administrator that demonstrates that the arts, in particular music, are an indispensable part of the school curriculum. The North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA), founded in 1970, is a state affiliate of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). The mission of NCMEA is to advance music education by promoting the understanding and making of music by all. NCMEA membership comprises more than 2,300 K-12, collegiate and higher education music educators. where campers participated in a broad variety of digital experiences including coding, robotics, 3D printing/design, and immersive virtual reality. n Camp Invention Returned Again! Camp Invention was where children’s creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills were challenged and developed by inspiring future innovators and building their confidence in their natural ability to dream and create.
