MAKE-UP DAYS*
Workdays, breaks and early release days may
become student days if days are missed due
to inclement weather. All days (except
Sunday) between August 27 and June 7, no
matter how they are designated on the school
calendar MAY become make-up days.
Notice for make-up days may be short
depending upon the timing and duration of the
inclement weather. General statutes and State
Board of Education policy concerning the
school calendar will be followed. The make-up
schedule will be announced as soon as
possible after an inclement weather event has
ended.
STUDENT EARLY
RELEASE DAYS
Student Early Release Days: Students will be
dismissed from school 2.5 hours earlier than
the normal dismissal time. Lunch will be
served before students dismiss. After school
activities will begin at the regularly scheduled
time.
Visit www.rss.k12.nc.us for the complete Academic Calendar.

Immunization Requirements:
North Carolina law requires all children in the state to receive certain immunizations for entry into a North Carolina
Public School. Kindergarten and 7th Grade both have immunization requirements specific for school attendance. Proof
of vaccinations should be presented on or before the first day of school.
Kindergarten - Students enrolling in Kindergarten for the first
time must present proof of compliance with all required vaccinations
on or before the first day of attendance.
7th Grade - Students entering 7th grade will be required to have
one dose each of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and
meningococcal vaccines if they have not previously received
these vaccines. Proof of these should be submitted to the school.
Talk with your child’s health care provider or the local health department about vaccines needed for school entry. This
is a great chance to get your child to the doctor for a yearly health care visit.
To learn more about these vaccines and the diseases they prevent, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
website at www.cdc.gov/vaccines or the North Carolina Immunization Branch website at www.immunize.nc.gov.
Health Assessment Requirements:
NC state law requires that every child who enrolls in a NC public school for the first time (into any grade level)
provide proof of a recent health assessment. The assessment must have occurred within the 12 months prior to
entering school. A completed health assessment transmittal form is to be presented to the school of enrollment on or
before the child's first day of attendance.
Contact your child’s healthcare provider or the Rowan County Health Department to make an appointment. Students
not in compliance with immunization and/or health assessment requirements must be excluded from school as
required by NC state law, until proof of compliance is presented.
