Rowan-Salisbury Schools Inspiration Awards
Through a nomination process, Rowan-Salisbury staff are honored for their examples of
demonstrating extraordinary leadership by inspiring student success through their work with
our district. Each month during ‘Celebrations, our school board recognizes these honored
leaders by presenting them with an “Inspiration Award” for their contributions to our children’s
learning and success. These presentations took place at the September 24th Board of Education
meeting.

Early College Celebrates
The Rowan County Early College High School celebrated receiving a state ‘A’ status by joining together in a
special event in early October. The RCEC staff all participated in leading the fun and activities for students and
staff:
n Sakinah Riley, Sophomore English teacher, served as the DJ extraordinaire
n Principal Patrick Hosey enjoyed giving away door prizes that included ‘A’ Team t-shirts, along with RCEC
spirit hats and shirt gear
n Early College Data Manager Jeniffer Shermer and other staff members served camouflage cupcakes and
punch
n Pam Ratliff served as the photographer for the yearbook
n The teacher-led design team invited special guests that included RSS administrators
RCEC students and staff enjoyed the end-of-the-day activities outside with line dancing and playing soccer.
The Rowan County Early College
has always been a tight knit
community, composed of both
teachers and students. I believe
that the love and support we
receive at the early college is
the reason for our repeated
success. The celebration of our A
rating shows that the fostering
of a nurturing and positive
environment, encourages
learning that students can thrive
in! When we have constant
support from teachers and
faculty it encourages students to
put in our best efforts.
…Taron Lilly
One RCEC student summed it all up by stating, “Being at an Early College is an amazing experience that I’m
grateful for. I will be able to graduate college and high school in four years. The two years that I’ve been at
RCEC, we have been able to keep an ‘A’ rating. On October 5, 2018, our school had a celebration. At the ‘A’
Team Celebration, I was able to spend time with my classmates and realize that our hard work last year paid
off. It’s a good feeling to be at an ‘A’ rated school because you realize that you aren’t the only one that cares about their education, and it’s another factor
that brings the school together.”
