Horizons Unlimited: Future Forward
Since its debut in 1967 and expansion in 1989, Horizons Unlimited, the
supplementary education center owned and operated by Rowan-Salisbury
Schools has offered low cost educational enrichment suitable for all ages to
our region. School age students attend the facility during school hours to
participate in experiential learning which fosters problem solving and critical
thinking. Classes challenge students to dive deep as they explore science
and the natural world. Whether it involves engineering an aqueduct in the
Makerspace, cracking a code on the Code Bus, surveying study plots on the
nature trail or virtually traveling deep into space in search of comets via
the planetarium, the staff of Horizons Unlimited has fostered wonder in its
patrons for generations.
So, what does the future hold for the next generation of Horizons Unlimited
patrons? The nature trail will undergo a rejuvenation this spring that
includes greater access to the Salisbury Greenway, the current STEM Bus
will merge effort with Career and Technical Education and RSS School Food
Service for greater outreach, and the Margaret C. Woodson Planetarium
will celebrate its 50th year of service with a campaign centered on greater
accessibility to the stars!
