What is NTHS?
By Debbie Haynes, WRHS
The National Technical Honor Society currently serves approximately
100,000 active members and nearly a million members since its inception
in 1984. Awarding over $1.7 million in scholarships to date, NTHS honors
the achievements of top CTE students, provides scholarships to encourage
the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today’s highly
competitive, skilled workforce. For over 30 years, NTHS has been the
acknowledged leader in the recognition of outstanding student achievement
in career and technical education.
NTHS requires a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and the nominee must
be enrolled in a CTE (career technical) program. In addition to NTHS
requirements, additional suggested criteria include credit hours completed,
attendance, instructor nominations, disciplinary records, and CTSO (Career &
Technical Student Organization) membership.
NTHS student member Letters of Recommendation will be mailed directly to
a potential employer, an admissions registrar or a scholarship committee.
Members will need to log in as current NTHS members. After successful
login, the Student Menu is located on the welcome page. Students are able
to request custom letters of recommendation and apply for scholarships by
clicking the appropriate link on the Student Menu.

February was “Love the Bus” Month
February 12-16 was School Bus Driver Appreciation Week
Rowan-Salisbury students love their school bus drivers! Rowan-Salisbury
parents & staff appreciate school bus drivers! We all LOVE and APPRECIATE
those that drive our school buses – transporting our children safely to
school and back home each day.
This was not only an opportunity to say thanks, but it was a great
opportunity for all of us to help promote bus safety to all our students.
Tim Beck, RSS Transportation Director says that, “Even though we
transport roughly half of our student population daily, Transportation
touches every student’s life during a school year through school sponsored

Field trips during the school day
Athletic events after school
Band and FFA competitions
Among other school events
Transportation is a vital part of each student’s educational experience.
Thanks for helping to keep our students safe while learning life lessons
about transportation safety.”
Many of our schools participated in special appreciation and recognition
activities during the month of February to honor this special group of
school bus drivers.
