their students when they begin as new
teachers.

The symposium opened with Rowan-Salisbury Schools
Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody welcoming participants to the
district and discussed the role that digital learning has played in
the district’s successful transformation. Dr. Hope Williams, North
Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities President, greeted
attendees detailing the efforts of the work group of Deans and
then introduced North Carolina Representative D. Craig Horn, of
Union County, who gave an address on the topic, “Digital Learning:
Shaping NC’s Future,” followed by a question-and-answer session.
The RSS symposium team talked about suggested expectations
and items to look for to guide participants in their focus on digital
learning during school visits.
JESSE CARSON HIGH HONORS CHORUS PERFORMS
FOR CHARLOTTE HORNETS
JCHS students in the Honors Chorus performed the ‘National Anthem’ at
a recent Charlotte Hornets game. The 35 students also experienced an
official Hornets shoot around and a free 30th anniversary Hornets T-Shirt.
The evening was topped off for some of the students after a few of them
received “fist bumps” from several of the players. The students even sold
137 tickets to their friends and family members who came out to support
them. Overall, it was an awesome night of celebrating America and
representing JCHS and RSS. Megan Wyatt is the JCHS Chorus Teacher.
During the two-day symposium,
visitors toured several of our schools
and experienced digital learning at
RSS, dinner at Catawba College, and
participated in poster sessions, panel
discussions, breakout sessions, and
listening to keynote speakers. RSS
Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody provided
a keynote presentation to visitors
discussing the impact of RSS becoming
the first Renewal School System in North
Carolina and the status on Educator
Preparation Programs.
