‘Hugo the Hornet’ shares message about reading with
Brookside students
“Hugo the Hornet” had a message for the students at Brookside
Elementary School: “If you read every day, you can change your life.”
The mascot for the Charlotte Hornets professional basketball team
recently brought his “Reading Revolution” program to Brookside. The
entertaining program encouraged children to make reading part of
their everyday routine and also gave some students the opportunity to
board Hugo’s “Book Bus” and select new books for classroom libraries.
Hugo danced, played games and even sprayed students with silly
string as he promoted the importance of reading.
“Reading is a priority at our school. It is the foundation for all
future learning,” said principal Jill Payne. “We were super excited
for the opportunity to host the Charlotte Hornets and Hugo. They
