Child Nutrition Program 2013-2014
We offer a complete breakfast which includes a grain and/or protein, milk and a juice or fruit. A student can refuse one of these components and it will remain a qualifying USDA breakfast; however, the cost will be the same. If a student chooses individual items, there will be an a la carte charge. A USDA qualifying Lunch includes items from each of the 5 food groups: Protein, Grain, Vegetable, Fruit and Milk. Students must take 3 of the 5 food groups and 1 of those chosen foods much be a fruit or vegetable choice to be a complete USDA qualifying meal. If a student chooses only 3 or 4 of the required food groups, there is no change in cost. Please note at times 1 to 2 food groups (components) are combined in one food item. Students cannot substitute one food group for another. Salad Bars are offered at all grade levels daily. For high school and middle school we offer a “Quick Bite” and “Healthy Cart” meal option which are also a USDA qualifying meal... Cabarrus County Schools Child Nutrition will provide food substitutions for any student who qualifies as “disabled” under ADA, Section 504, or IDEA. If your student has an IEP, or Medical Care Plan from the Exceptional Children’s Division that includes feeding modifications or alternatives, this document will be followed by Child Nutrition. Students that require meal substitutions must have an up-to-date Diet Order completed and signed by a licensed physician on file at the school and CNP Office. A new Diet Order must be filed with the school within the first twenty (20) days of each school year. Services may be discontinued without a new or updated Diet Order after this date. A letter describing the limitation of Diet Orders and the Diet Order form can be obtained through the school nurse. Every household with students registered in Cabarrus County Schools will be mailed a free/reduced meal benefit (including breakfast AND lunch) application during the summer. If you registered after July, you will receive a household application upon registering at your school. These applications should be returned in person or by mail directly to the Child Nutrition Office to ensure privacy. Only 1 application per household is needed. The benefit for free or reduced meal prices does not begin until the application form has been processed. All meals must be paid for until the application has been processed and approved. This can take up to 10 days. If you have not received notification after 10 days, please call the Child Nutrition office at 704-784-5124 to check the status of your application. A student may eat at the previous year’s benefit for the first 30 days of the school year. Free and Reduced meal applications are available and accepted throughout H ????
