Mary Ferguson Named NCASWCD Winner Mary Ferguson, STEM Coach and media specialist at Patriots STEM Elementary, has been selected as the 2019 Conservation Education Teacher of the Year! The North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (NCASWCD) and the Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) recognized Mary at the 2019 NCASWCD Annual Meeting. The Conservation Education Teacher of the Year Award is one of the many awards given by the NCASWCD. There are eight soil and water conservation “Areas” in North Carolina, and districts send their top candidate. The winner is selected from applications sent from across the state. Mary’s application, submitted by the Cabarrus SWCD, detailed a committed dedication to providing STEM education to students. Her efforts to insure that their environmental knowledge was enhanced was evident in the programs she provides and the time she commits. “We are honored to have the opportunity to recognize Ms. Ferguson this year. As society gets further and further removed from the outdoors around them, providing these types of opportunities are invaluable”, said Bryan Evans – Executive Direct of the NCASWCD.
