Principals Complete Leadership Program
Congratulations to the following principals and assistant principals for
completing the Distinguished Leadership Program (DLP), a yearlong
leadership development program for practicing school principals designed
and provided by the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principal’s
Assoc iation and sponsored by the American Express Foundation
through the North Carolina Alliance for School Leadership Development
(NCASLD).
Sue Nash, principal at A.T. Allen Elementary School
Adrian Parry, principal at Rocky River Elementary School
Nick Lord, assistant principal at Concord Middle School
Andrew Crook, principal at Central Cabarrus High School
Mark Lowry, assistant principal at Cox Mill High School
The DLP uses a non-traditional professional development model that is
aligned to the performance evaluation standards adopted by the State
Board of Education for North Carolina’s school leaders. This unique
cohort-based program is designed to limit principals’ time away from
their schools by allowing them to attend face-to-face sessions once every other month while accessing on-line assignments, materials and
coaching in between face-to-face sessions. Principals engage in a series of authentic activities throughout the year-long experience that
are designed to build the capacity of their schools and their own capacity as “Distinguished” school leaders.
Odell ES Students Present Inventions
Fourth grade AIG students at W.R. Odell Elementary School entered
the Shark Tank on March 16th to present their inventions to a group
of community sharks. Two students, Davian Snow and Kenyatte Gladden, served as emcees
for the event and wrote original raps to introduce the sharks, as well
as the inventors.
The Shark Tank event was the culmination of the students’ inventions
unit. Out of the 64 students who presented inventions to their
classmates, the top 9 earned the right to present to leaders in our
community – aka the Sharks. Taylor Bruns’ invention – the Mom Mover – was selected as the
winner. The Mom Mover is a pulley system that can be attached to
the interior roof of a car to send items to kids sitting in the back seat,
keeping Moms and Dads from reaching behind them or taking their
eyes off the road.
Inventors presenting were Banks Bogunia, Aiyanna Bostian, Taylor
Bruns, Isabella Caggiano, Ben Crager, Lily Mergentime, Reba-Marie
Meskill, Jayna Moss and Bri Thompson.
The Sharks were Scott Padgett, former Mayor of Concord and former
Principal of Beverly Hills Elementary School, Jen Canipe, mechanical
engineer at Duke Energy and Carol Grochmal, Keller-Williams real
estate agent.
She received a Shark Tank trophy that was designed Odell
Elementary students Kaitlyn Arnold, Maddie Lankford and Ved Modak.
The trophy was printed on the school’s new 3-D printer.
