Message from Superintendent Christopher M. Lowder Ed. D.
Congratulations to Kate
Culbreth, our 2018-2019
Teacher of the Year! She was
named Teacher of the Year at
a special ceremony April 19th
at the Cabarrus Arts Council’s
Davis Theater. Kate teaches
English Language Arts at Wolf
Meadow Elementary School.
We had the opportunity to
watch our athletes compete in
the Special Olympics Spring
Games at the Cabarrus Arena &
Events Center. Once again this
year, the U.S. Army joined our
team to help make our athlete’s
Olympic dreams come true.
Army personnel volunteered
at the games and also staffed an interactive exhibit in the Olympic
Village.
For the 3rd consecutive year, Cabarrus County Schools is home to the
3A Men’s Basketball Champions. Congratulations to the Cox Mill High
School men’s basketball team on winning its second consecutive state
championship with a nail-biter victory over Jacksonville Northside on
March 10th in Reynolds Coliseum at N.C. State University.
Totally cool, y fun!

Congratulations also are in order to all of the CCS teams that
competed in the state VEX Robotics Championship on March 10th.
Mount Pleasant Middle School and J.M. Robinson High School Team
A and Team D have qualified to compete in the World VEX Robotics
competition.
Two of our district’s magnet school programs recently received
recognition. We are proud to share that Royal Oaks Elementary
School will join A+ Schools of North Carolina, an arts-based school
reform program, and Weddington Hills Elementary School has been
named a National Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools
of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based
schools.
Before we close the books on the 2017-2018 school year, we still
have important work to do. Over the next few weeks, there will be
final exams, end-of-course, and end-of grade tests to take. There will
be field days and awards ceremonies to attend. There will be study
guides and final projects due. There will be final grades that need to
be submitted and classrooms to pack up and clean out. With all that
is going on, it’s important that we all stay as focused, dedicated and
committed as we were back in September. It has been a great year
and I look forward to an even greater one in 2018-2019! Have a safe
and happy summer.
