Kate Culbreth Selected as Regional TOY
Dey is District’s Top Speller Again
For the second consecutive year, Aarja Dey
is once again the top speller in Cabarrus
County Schools. Now a sixth-grader at
Harris Road Middle School, she defended
her title at the district spelling bee on Jan.
9th.
After 23 rounds, Aarja reclaimed the title
by correctly spelling the championship
word – superfluous.
Kate Culbreth, our 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year, has
been selected as the 2019 Southwest Region Teacher
of the Year! Kate was surprised by the announcement
from Freebird McKinney, the 2018 North Carolina
Teacher of the Year, during a school-wide assembly.
Kate, among eight other regional winners, will now
participate in the state selection process. The North
Carolina Teacher of the Year will be named in April.
Congratulations, Kate!

School Cancellations, Delays and Early Dismissals
Cabarrus County Schools
wants to help parents,
staff and the community
prepare for any changes
to the school schedule
that might occur as
a result of inclement
weather or other
emergency situations. and employees safe.
The superintendent uses
information obtained
from weather forecasts
and district personnel
about road conditions
when determining
whether school should
be cancelled, delayed, or
dismissed early due to
severe weather. Please keep in mind that no announcement means school is operating
on a normal schedule. However, when school must be dismissed early
or is closed, parents should make arrangements for childcare, as the
KIDS:PLUS after-school and before-school programs will not operate
that day.
Decisions about delaying
or canceling school or dismissing school early as a result of inclement
weather or even the threat of inclement weather are never easy.
However, we always err on the side of caution to keep our students
