CCS Hosts Crisis Preparedness and Planning Session
On Thursday , November 17 , 2016 Cabarrus County Schools hosted a Crisis Preparedness and Planning session with Dr . Melissa Reeves , co-author of the National Association of School Psychologists PREPaRE School Crisis Prevention and Intervention curriculum ( the first nationally disseminated school crisis prevention and intervention curriculum ) and consultant to school districts across the county for large scale events such as natural disasters , school shootings , etc .
Cabarrus County Schools invited each school to bring their Principal , School Resource Officer , and Mental Health Contact ( a designated student support staff member : either a school counselor , school psychologist , or school social worker ) to learn how to conduct Threat Assessments for students and to develop Safety Plans for each school site . The purpose of bringing this group of school staff together was to highlight the targeted mental health support that is going on in the schools this year with a specialized focus on crisis preparedness and
planning district-wide .
