Opportunities for active play include :
• Students are provided with 50 minutes of daily , un-facilitated outdoor play during break and lunch .
• Students are provided with a minimum of 40 minutes of daily , facilitated physical education ( PE ). During this time , educators facilitate games and activities to teach fundamental movement skills , such as balance , coordination and locomotor skills . PE may occur indoors when the weather is poor or outdoor physical space is limited .
• Throughout the week , students participate in additional physical activity including outdoor learning opportunities and music and movement classes for at least 30 minutes .
• During lessons , prolonged sitting is limited and age-appropriate . Teachers incorporate breaks with short bursts of activity to promote whole-body muscle movement .
Screen Use Policy
At Crofton House School we believe in providing enriched curriculum opportunities that promote the education of the whole child . Educators provide a low-technology learning environment and facilitate age-appropriate , play-based learning activities . When suitable , educators may enhance a topic of study by showing video clips or photos on a TV or computer .
In accordance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act 7 ( 1 ) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation ( 43 , 44 ( 1 ), ( 3 ), Schedule G ( 1 ) students in the Early Childhood Education Centre are given a minimum of 60 minutes for daily outdoor activity and additional active play for a total of 120 minutes .
Injury prevention
Educators in the Early Childhood Education Centre make a conscious effort to prevent and reduce injuries during active play . Attention is given to teach children how to be safe and act responsibly in play spaces and how to use toys and equipment appropriately .
