Tier 3 : Referred for a Psycho-educational Assessment and , if Required , Placed on an IEP ( Individual Education Plan )
Any student who needs further support will be referred for a psycho-educational assessment . Once the assessment has been administered and the report has been shared with the School , an IEP may be developed for a student highlighting the learning strengths and needs as documented in the educational assessment . With an IEP in place , a student may require a Learning Strategies block in her timetable in order for more targeted support .
In addition , the Learning Strategies teachers :
• Collaborate with all Senior School faculty to support learning opportunities and facilitate each student in reaching her full academic potential
• Organize regular one-to-one meetings to discuss progress , performance and goal setting
• Collaborate with external professionals involved with the assessment and learning of the student
• Collaborate with parents / guardians on goal setting , progress and performance

Academic and Post-Secondary Counselling
Crofton House School offers each student comprehensive academic and post-secondary counselling . This may include post-secondary and career counselling for Canadian , US and international post-secondary institutions . Postsecondary counsellors also advise on art and design schools and many specialised programs , or help explore gap-year options . Students in all grades can meet with the post-secondary counsellors for academic advice throughout the school year . The formal post-secondary planning process at CHS begins in the spring of Grade 10 , where students are introduced to the postsecondary research and application processes . In Grades 11 and12 , students will continue to receive personalised guidance and support .
Students will receive guidance in Career Education classes , small groups and one-to-one meetings . Throughout the process , students are strongly encouraged to attend presentations by representatives of various post-secondary institutions held at CHS , virtual and local events , and to visit prospective university and college campuses . Students are also encouraged to engage in an ongoing dialogue with their families .
Throughout the school year parents / guardians and students are encouraged to attend postsecondary presentations / sessions and connect with the Post-Secondary Counselling team with questions .
For detailed information about the postsecondary planning process explained by grade level , please refer to the Senior School Academic Handbook .
English + Program
The English + Program at CHS has been developed to support multilingual students to achieve mastery in the academic English teachers use for lessons , tests , and assignments , while building the confidence , competence and connectedness needed for success in a full English immersion program .
Because academic language mastery takes five to seven years , students are supported from grade 8 through to grade 12 . This five-year program is offered to a maximum of 8 to 10 new Grade 8 students entering CHS each year . These students receive additional English language support designed by an English language specialist within our Student Services Department .
