FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
I
It’s hard to believe we have already reached
the month of November. This is a busy time for
many of us, but it’s also a time for us to reflect
and give thanks. There is much to be thankful for,
and I want to spend some time thanking the people
who make Volusia County Schools a wonderful place.
First, I want to say thank you to our teachers and
instructional staff. You are the heart of our
organization. I am thankful for your passion and your
commitment to the academic and emotional success
of our students. Each one of us can point to at least
one teacher who laid the foundation of where we
are today. We could not do it without you, and for
that we say thank you.
Students, thank you for always bringing your best
each day to the classroom. We appreciate your
willingness to come in, work hard and be the best
students in the state of Florida. In an environment
that is ever changing, you continue to be committed
to your work and achieve extraordinary things, in
and out of the classroom.
Thank you to our administrators, who lead our
schools and staff successfully each day. Your vision
and passion for education has us moving in the right
direction as a district. I am thankful that you are
willing to put so many others before yourselves to help our students and teachers give their best each day.
Thank you to our support staff for your incredibly hard work to keep our offices and schools running smoothly
and efficiently. From the smallest of details to the biggest projects, you handle them professionally and with delicate
care. Often, you are the first impression that our communities have with our schools, and your friendliness and
welcoming attitude are appreciated by all.
Thank you to our district staff, for working to keep our operation running every day. Each department holds an
important role for Volusia County Schools, and each is vital to the success of this organization. I appreciate how hard
you work to support our schools, our students and our teachers. Your behind-the-scenes work does not go
unnoticed, and I appreciate how you approach your jobs each day.
Lastly, but certainly not least, I would like to say thank you to our parents and families. Your involvement in your
child’s education is crucial to their achievement. Your dedication to helping your child be their very best helps us in
the work that we do. Thank you for supporting teachers, staying involved in our schools and being an advocate for
your child.
As the proud Superintendent of Volusia County Schools, I have much to be thankful for each day. As we
approach the holiday, I wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
James T. Russell, Superintendent
