FROM THE EDITOR MAGA Z I NES Dear Friends, We hope your new year is off to a fabulous start! Each January brings a feeling of excitement as we create those New Year’s resolutions and set a list of goals for ourselves and our families to accomplish. Some may be modest like getting the kids to put their shoes in the mudroom or starting that exercise program we’ve been putting off, while others may be ambitious like planning a family vacation this year to someplace dreamy on our wish list. Whatever your 2019 goals are, we’re here to cheer you on! Often, being successful comes from our own mindset about our goals, and “New Year, New Attitude: How to Tap More Joy in 2019” is an article you can pull out and hang on your refrigerator, so that every time you need a boost, you can get a little reminder that you can do this! Creating a vision board and a happiness list are two easy ways to stay motivated during the new year and it can serve as a reminder all year long of what you’re hoping to accomplish. This is also a great time of year to share our annual goal setting with our kids by encouraging them to create a list for themselves. Delving into their hopes and dreams for the new year, “How to Help Your Kids Find Their Purpose and Fulfill Their Dreams” gives some nifty ideas about creating a list with our children using SMART goals. Research shows that setting achievable goals is not only a confidence builder but teaches responsibility and there’s no better time to get started than in January, when we have the whole year ahead of us. Talking about our expectations for 2019 over dinner, while playing together or planning a family outing helps everyone feel more invested, and we have several pieces this month to give you ideas about how to keep that new year’s optimism flowing. From “Maximize Your Child’s Potential: Talk, Talk, Talk” to “The Compassion Cure: Let Your Kids Catch You Being Generous,” this month is filled with wonderful ways to set the tone for a year of joy and happiness, not only for your families, but also for those in the community as a whole, and beat those winter blues. We hope you’ll find them inspiring. We wish you a prosperous and happy 2019. We look forward to hearing from you and hope you’ll drop us a line this year to let us know how things are going.
