A Sisterly Duet: Fine Arts at Ivy Hawn Meet sisters Maria and Sophia, 7th and 6th graders respectively who began attending Ivy Hawn in 2013. They knew immediately Ivy Hawn was something special, offering such ine arts programs as dance, theatre, chorus, 2D & 3D art, and much more. Through the school’s dance program, Sophia has gained a strong technical foundation in classical ballet as well as other variations of dance. While Illumination, the school’s dance team has given her the opportunity to travel across the state of Florida meeting, competing, and learning from experts in ballet, contemporary, and tap dance. Sophia knew instantly that she’d found a home in Ivy Hawn’s dance program. Maria, the oldest, has taken advantage of multiple Ivy Hawn arts programs. One of her preformances was in Peter Pan, where she played a Lost Boy, named Nibs. Getting into character sparked a ire for the creative in Maria. In 6th grade Maria began preforming as a Jr. Thespian. Since then, she has performed not only in numerous Ivy Hawn productions, but at local theatres and competitions as well. Additionally, she is enrolled in the school’s 2D art program, joined in a creative writing class, and has begun exploring elements of design through STEM. Maria and Sophia are just two examples of the diverse student population who have found their niche at this school; but, it’s not just about dancing and performing. Ivy Hawn’s roots are as a ine arts school and it is dedicated to fostering intelligence, individuality and artistry for a lifetime.
