HOW TO BALANCE WORK AND HOME LIFE WITH KIDS New ways of working introduces new challenges for how to best balance work and home life in a constantly changing business landscape. We asked some of Office Divvy’s members, who are also parents, for tips on this balancing act: Yolanda Williams Office Divvy member since 2012 I always try to put my children first by keeping their calendar of “ events as up to date as possible so I can schedule my work around them. There are times I am unable to do that though, and that is when I rely on my village to step in for me. Knowing that there is always someone there even when I can't be makes it easier. ” Yolonda Williams is the Senior Parent Educator with the Healthy Start Coalition of Volusia and Flagler Counties. When Yolonda is not catching up on work at a hot-desk or meeting with colleagues in one of the conference rooms, she is in the field working directly with families in Flagler County and making our children’s lives a brighter place. The time that Yolonda saves in working from her Palm Coast Office, she puts back into the things that matter. Jarrod Maxwell Office Divvy member since 2019 Keeping it real, keeping it simple is my way. Limit the “ distractions and focus on the priorities. You can, and you will make it happen. ” Jarrod Maxwell, CEO of Maxwell Painting, is driven leader and coach for Mad Dogs Flag Football. Interviewing potential employees, holding leadership meetings, and catching up on solo work is business as usual. So is being out in the field managing his residential and commercial painting business and the Central Florida’s newest fastest growing Flag Football league. The flexibility he’s built into his life allows him to concentrate on business and family, which is his biggest priority. Marcus Burke Office Divvy member since 2015 Being a single parent and a busy executive, I am in constant “ contact with my children and work. My secret is texting. I text internally with my colleagues at work, I keep it short when I am with my children. It is a silent way of completing work while being still engaged in my family life. Of course no texting while driving. ” Marcus Burke, Administrative Director/Sr. Tax Consultant with Focus 9 Enterprises, You’ll find Marcus between his Orange City and Palm Coast Offices. Marcus is a focused father at home who is keenly aware of how fast time is going with his children. When he is not mentoring at home, he is mentoring at the office. He is the go to on his team for talking through problems and getting people to the next steps. F L A G L E R parent M A G A Z I N E | 15
