Sunshine State Scholars Named for 2022 by Flagler Schools

Flagler Schools is proud to announce our 2022 Sunshine State Scholars . This program highlights the top high school juniors across the state in areas of Science , Technology , Engineering or Mathematics ( STEM ).

The 2022 Sunshine State Scholar for Flagler Schools is Flagler-Palm Coast High School student Shawn Zhudro . Our alternate is Isabella Tietje from Matanzas High School .
Shawn is currently enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at FPCHS . He has a weighted GPA of 5.1429 . He is also a member of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society , where he serves as the group ’ s vice president . Shawn has also taken part in the Future Problem Solving Program and has been a private math tutor .
Shawn has always had a passion for engineering since he first started playing with towers of blocks . While he ’ s not yet decided on which area of specialization he ’ d like to pursue , Shawn says the desire to go into the engineering field has not wavered . He ’ s excited by the latest technological advancements constantly being designed and implemented .
Our alternate , Isabella Tietje . is pursuing an AICE Diploma ( Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education ) at Matanzas High School . She also is dual enrolled at Daytona State College . Isabella ’ s weighted high school GPA is 5.025 . She ’ s the team captain for the school ’ s wrestling team , is on the varsity swim team and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta . Isabella also has qualified for the National Scholastic Surf Association for the past four years , including qualifying for the World Surf League on the Italian team .
Isabella says mathematics has long been her favorite subject and an AP Biology class sparked an interest in the medical field . However , she says environmental science has become her passion . She is intrigued by learning about the impact humans have on the environment around us .
Shawn Zhudro will now attend the two-day program at the end of March where he , and all the other Sunshine State Scholars , will have the opportunity to connect with employers that specialize in the STEM fields and network with each other , as well as with representatives from state colleges and universities .
