3. LET’S CONTROL OURSELVES
WHAT WE BELIEVE:
To be a successful Jew is to thrive in life of rules and boundaries
- to be a “mensch.” We are asked not only understand but to embrace
the value of structure, order, and commitment. That means we are
constantly refining ourselves, channeling our passions for good, and
aware of our obligation to the greater community.
WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE AT LAMPLIGHTERS YESHIVAH:
• Self-refinement and responsibility are paramount at Lamplight-
ers Yeshivah. Our curriculum is based on the methodology of
Montessori and its four pillars, which foster overt and consistent
expectations of children, predictable routines in the classroom,
clearly defined workspaces, choice and orderly activities and in-
teractions. Children are allowed uninterrupted time to continue
self- correcting until they reach success — and teachers refrain
from jumping in to correct.
• A Jewish Montessori classroom is a community and therefore
requires proper boundaries and respect from its members to
function properly. Our students live and learn by the following
affirmations:

manage my time well. I approach even creative pursuits with
enough structure for success.
“The Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak, once thun-

without good middos!’...The grounding in good
character traits will make a significant contri-
bution to the child, the benefits radiating in all
directions.”
— From The Educators Handbook by Rabbi Mordechai Hodokov
COORDINATION: My fine motor and gross motor skills are refined enough to accomplish work and life activ-
ity. I am prepared for writing.
CONCENTRATION: I have “stick-to-it-ness!” I can complete what I start. I am able to focus my attention on
the task at hand.
INDEPENDENCE: I understand that learning does not only happen with a
