About Lamplighters // Lamplighters Yeshivah Parent Handbook
The Process of Lamplighting
• Creating space for another
• Loving another in a way that bonds the essential G-dliness all Jews share
within
• Sharing knowledge and talents in a way that expands another’s thinking
and talents
• Inspiring another to see and rise to his or her potential
• Guiding another toward an accomplishment of meaningful and G-dly
goals.
Beliefs about Children
• Every child is a child of H-shem and has G-dliness as the core
• H-shem has a purpose for every child
• Every child can be “lit” and can be a whole, alive, productive person of
this world
• To become “lit,” a child must use body, heart, mind and soul--this is a
whole-person experience
• Variability in children is the norm, not the exception
• Children have choice at all points during the process of becoming “lit”
and when continuing to stay “lit”
• Lamplighting continues throughout life
Preparation of the Educator
• Begins with oneself--learning to be “inner” as a person
• Reflecting on personal beliefs about children
• Learning Lamplighting from the Source by continual study of Chassidus
• Be a person that emulates the outcome that is aspired for by children
• The stages of educating are training, nurturing, instructing and guiding.
• Each of these aspects require different methods and different preparation.
• As they will need to be customized for children, educators need to become
fluent in their design and activity.
