Most of us would rather conveniently send a text message than talk on the phone. A lot of us would rather post a picture than tell someone how we are doing. When this type of technology spills over into the household what reigns supreme? Parents must teach their children to be better socializers. Children must also understand that there are a time and place for everything. The phone or tablet does not belong at the dining table when dinner is being served, nor does it belong during movie night or family time.

Parents, however, need to set an example for their children. If the parent is a slave to technology then the child is going to practice the same behaviors. That child will show disdain or rebel if the parent points it out. Some parents pass the buck with parenting and they wish to use technology is a tool or distraction so they themselves don't have to parent the child. This is not the way to go and will lead to distractive parenting thus creating an anti-social and maladjusted child. Children need to understand that it is normal to have friendships and socialize rather than via technology. It appears that technology is making us colder, more self-gratifying and we're slowly losing bits of ourselves in the process.

People online post happy pictures yet their life might not be happy. This form of social media presence can later take a toll if the person may be suffering from depression or self-esteem issues. Some people feel it is necessary to put out a façade rather than showing true parts of themselves. Of course, you want to hear about happy people online no one likes a Debbie Downer, however overly exaggerating a life that you do not have or presenting a life of someone else is not only deceptive but it is wrong.

Having the convenience of tech at our fingertips is great, how we choose to use it is what we must consider. We can't get wrapped up in the lives of others or compare your life to others rather than living our own life. We can soon discover that we don't need technology to be the person that we were meant to be. Many people are obsessed with keeping up with trends, they want the biggest phone, laptop, but how is that helping you in the long run? Don't let the profuse use technology of technology be a hindrance to you. Get out communicate with others and most of all live your life and enjoy what's around you.
