The NCADD (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug-Dependence) is an organization that was created to help persons dealing with addiction. They are the leading agency that provides advocacy, awareness, services and a linkage to treatment and care for individuals that need help. Their goal is to diminish the negative stigma of addicts and focus on the person that they have become during their recovery. A large part of what the NCADD does is to encourage and support families, employers, communities, agencies, and individuals. It provides assistance to those that have sought help to know they are not alone and have the support that they need to kick their addiction.
This organization was founded when Marty Mann, who one of the first documented women to achieve her sobriety with Alcoholics Anonymous. It was at that time the National Committee for Education on Alcoholism was assembled in 1944, this organization later became the National Council on Alcoholism (NCA) in 1950, and then the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) in 1990 to address concerns of other drugs.
