The Black Cat of Kilakee

The Return Of The Feline...

In 1968, Mrs Margaret O'Brien purchased Killakee House in abandonment and planned on turning it into an arts centre, it was the perfect property, set in the idyllic setting in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, but little did she know, that things would not go to her plan.

Its Arrival...

Whilst the house was in the process of renovation, the workmen lived on site, Tom McAssey being one of them. One night when the weather was particularly stormy, uncanny sounds began to emanate from the exterior of the house ,and Mr McAssey saw an unethereal beast, "a black cat the size of an Airedale dog!". Tom McAssey painted a depiction of the creature and it has held its residence in the house since that fateful day in 1968. The first time that Mrs O'Brien had saw the frenzied feline, it was sat on the stone paving of the hallway just glaring at her with those big orange demonic eyes. Tom McAsseys painting "The Black Cat of Killakee" gazes down hauntingly from one of the walls, its human like features and orange eyes are almost enough to send cold chills running down your spine. Legend has it that if you turn the painting upside down, it will invoke the creature therefore manifesting itself and making its presence known.

When Ghost Adventures investigated the location on October 31 2014, they used a device called a spirit box and a large cat's screech came through!

The Beginning...

The infamous Dublin Hellfire Club have contributed to many a terrifying tale, but not one as disturbing as this. Sir Richard Whaley of the Hellfire Club in Dublin was known for his sadistic humour and devil worshipping, and on the occasion in question, he doused a black cat in whiskey and set it alight before it escaped and ran across the moor with its fur aflame. It is said that locals believed that it was the devil himself.
