When you are asked to think of a quintessential British poltergeist case, you may think of that of the Enfield Haunting and many will bypass the case of the pontefract poltergeist. Over recent years since the release of the motion picture “ When The Lights Went Out”, the case is gradually picking up recognition from paranormal researchers and inquisitive folk alike. Walking through the front doors of the 30 East Drive, Chequerfield is like stepping back in time to the 1960's as the proud owner Bil Bungay strives to keep the property in a similar state as what it may have been like when the original case took place.
The owner of the house and also producer of the movie “When The Lights Went Out”, recalls a chilling experience in which his iPhone was completely drained of battery whilst taking a photo with the two of the stars of the movie Hannah Clifford and Tasha Connor. The image was about to be taken in the poltergeist ridden property when the phone battery drained. When he checked to see whether the image was on his camera roll, it was nowhere to be seen. Unprovoked, one month later it appeared randomly on his mobile phone as if nothing had happened.
Bil Bungay the owner and producer of the movie based on the events which occurred on his property granted me permission to take a look around one of the most haunted places in England. If not Europe. During my visit on Tuesday 26th May 2015, I witnessed a plethora of unusual activity in the house including spontaneous flashes of light all around the house. The lights appeared in the coal cellar (which for the record has no windows), and at the bottom of the stairs. The most chilling of experiences that I had attached to the place was actually on my way home, we took a wrong turning which resulted in us going down a road unknown to us, what we experienced next will make any apiphobiac cringe with fear. A swarm of 60-70 bees hit the windscreen of our car, though I can't conclude that this is a paranormal occurrence, it is an unnerving coincidence that after this 'experience' I learned that while the original case was taking place, Mrs Prichard had a similar experience in which there were swarming bees around the property.
During my visit on the 30th May 2015, I was stood in the kitchen with the owners producers' son (Lucas), and we both witnessed the most unusual thing, the cold tap was turned on to clean out a glass, but it seemed as it were steaming like boiling water.
