Stanford University and Mathematica Policy Research spent time on playgrounds studying Playworks. They found that Playworks schools experienced less bullying and exclusionary behavior, an increased perception of safety, easier transitions to learning, better behavior and more attention in class than schools without the program.

Our Playworks leader Coach J

Coach J is extensively trained to facilitate games and team building activities for elementary age students. Powell Elementary is one of 4 other elementary schools within WCPSS who were afforded the opportunity to participate in this program. We are looking forward to the ways in which Coach J and Playworks will transform the culture of play at Powell!

What does a Playworks Playground look like?

On Playworks playgrounds, kids become leaders and have the opportunity to become junior coaches. They run their own games and learn to peacefully settle their disputes. Kids play hard, cheer loud, and high five often. They carry that feeling of peace and belonging to their classrooms and schoolwork, back to their neighborhoods, and out into the world.
