FEATURE Library Corner Librarianship is a labor of love for me. It affords me the opportunity to help others and to constantly learn! Ask the Librarian A conversation with Emmanuel. . . Favorite Quotes: “Your Mind is like a garden, be careful what you plant in it” -Author M.LoMan I love what I do! You can say that books saved my life. They gave me the avenue to escape poverty of the mind! They caused me to see myself, beyond my environment. It was the power of reading that gave me hope. mmanu E The Libr el We have to be careful what we think. The mind is like a garden, be careful what you plant in it! I learned to read because a librarian taught me how to weed the garden in my mind. She taught me to plant positive seeds. Books helped me to till the mind soil. She took the time to use literature to teach me hope and to expose me to the power of learning. ian ar I have not always felt that way. See, I could not read until I was 12 years old; I have dyslexia. But I do not believe that it was dyslexia that prevented me from reading; it was the thought that I could not read. People around me bought into the thought I could not. Thus, causing me to believe that I could not. When you can learn how to learn, then the gift of hope, creativity, and imagination begins to fight for existence; it becomes extraordinary, like a red rose blooming in a winter’s storm. As a librarian, I value the power of creativity and the sacred gift of learning. So I take my experiences and help others to realize their potential. Librarianship is about teaching people how to learn. The Library-access to what is within it-propels innovation and creativity. It can save a soul and cause them to be extraordinary!” http://www.amcollege.us Panther-Mag.indd 15 15 10/29/13 11:59 AM
