A family can be made to feel like the fight is just to great

for a number of reasons.

1. Cost.

2. Having to defend themselves repeatedly on false allegations.

3. The way they are treated.

4. The amount of time spent in the court room or cyf office.

5 Pushed away or treated as non existent.

The question must be asked not why the person feels pushed to walk away from loved children but more so why the system placed them in that situation.

Systemic abuse (repeated court proceedings) Lengthy case delays all add up and take a toll on a person. The abusive nature of the system becomes far to much. Yes the adult is hurt forever but so is the child. This systemic abuse is abuse long term on the child/ren.. It is they

who will really pay the price.

The system does need to change because when a parent/family member is left feeling like their is no option but to step out of the childs life after repeatedly fighting for improvement then something else is going on. Is the system now failing the children on yet another level. Has restrictions to legal aid and the ever growing power of cyf with a service commitment it seems so willing to alter to suit its poor treatment of parents, extended families and caregivers, doing a far greater level of long term damage to the children in its care?
