AIRHEADS
Humans of New York is a photoblog created by a former bond trader who roams the
streets of Manhattan to interview and take photographs of strangers. When I first saw
its Facebook page and account on Instagram, I was touched by the stories that the
people shared with the world. I was also moved by the fact that these random, typical
people on the street had such interesting stories to share. A question hence came into
my mind…why can’t there be an article about Humans of Beijing?
Beijing is not only the city where we live and study in, it is also a city filled with diversity. There are the old and the young, the foreign and the local, the rich and the
impoverished. Sometimes, we tend to shut ourselves up in a small bubble: a small
English-speaking bubble filled with conversations about IGCSE scores, SAT vocabulary and IB IAs. Humans of Beijing wishes to break that little bubble just a bit, and
introduce to you Beijing…like you’ve never seen before.

“Well, it’s tiring; try standing for 12 hours
everyday. 8:30 in the morning to 8:30 at night.
But what else can we do? We don’t have any
other skills, but we must carry on with our
lives. We all need money for food and a bed,
don’t we? Now you guys go find someone else,
if my boss sees me talking to you, I’ll get fired.”
