Weplayedfourroundsinfourdays, eachwithitsowncharacter, charm, andweather. Thecoursesstayedplayableevenwith therain; soggyfairwayscanrealydampenthemood. That’ satestofenduranceandpatience, especialywhenyourbaldecidestowandertothefarsideofthefairway. Onthebacknineofthefinalday, wewereabletogoto90degrees. Thatofered atinytasteoffreedom, evenifthepar3’ scouldn’ tresisthangingontotheircartpathstatus.
1. OceanCityGolfClub – NewportBay – Ourfirstdayopenedwithrainandcart-path-onlyconditions, butthecoursedrainedwelandstilplayedstrong. NewportBayfeaturesatraditionallayout withexcelentconditionsandwide, approachablefairways.
2. LighthouseSound – Thiscourseremainsagroupfavorite. It’ sscenic, withviewsoverthebay, andfeaturestwodistinctlydiferentnines. Thefrontismoreopenandstraightforward, whilethe backgetstighterandmoredemanding. Alongcartrideoverthemarshlandgivesyouabeautiful andscenicexperiencewhilemakingyourwaytothenexthole.
3. Rum Pointe – Atruelinks-stylelayoutwithwidefairwaysandaforgivingdesign, Rum Pointe alwaysearnsaspotonourschedule. Theviewsareexcelent, andthelayoutprovidesafairtest ofgolfwithoutbeingoverlypunishing— perfectforthethirddayofatrip.
4. Eagle’ sLanding— OurfinalroundtookplaceatEagle’ sLanding, abeautifulymaintained coursewithamixofholedesignsandnaturalmarshsuroundings. Therewasnodrivingrange available, butbydayfour, mostofushadfiguredoutourswings— ormadepeacewiththem. The courseplayedfairlyandendedourtriponahighnote. Eagle’ sLandingisthesiteofthenow-famousquote:“ You’ renotnearlyasbadasIthoughtyou’ dbe.”

Ourgroupismadeupoflifelongfriends, half-lifefriendsandnew friendsfrom ourlocalgrocerystorethatwelovinglyrefer toasthe“ Krobar”. Thetoughestdecisionwashow totel3guysnamedJefapart, soweseparatedthem asCoolJef, New JefandRainbow Jef. After3yearsinarow, we’ vedevelopedarhythm toourannualtrip. Weknow who’ sgoingtoorder whatforbreakfast, whowilshow uplasttothecourse, andwho’ sgoingto“ accidentaly” forgettheirwaletatdinner. It’ sal partofthefun.
Thisyearwedecidedtoshakeitupalitlebitandhavesomefunwithhow weshowedup tothegolfcourse. Priortothetrip, wealplannedtogetacrazyshirtandwearittothe courseonCincoDeMayo. Wethoughtthiswasthebestdaysothatafterweplayed, we couldgooutforMexicanfoodwhileinourcrazyshirts. Thebestpartwaswhenweal showedupatLighthouseSoundtoseewhateachotherwerewearing. Itwaskeptunder wraps, evenfrom acoupleofthewiveswhoselectedtheirhusbands’ shirtsinsecret. TherewereSpanishthemedshirts, ashirtwithmyface, rompers, roosters, pinktacos, dolarbils, dinosaurs, andweevenhadourown“ TheMasters” caddy. Thestarterat LighthouseSoundcrackedupandstatedthathehadworkedthereforover20yearsand hadneverseenamorecolorfulgroup. Winning!
OceanCityofersagreatvalue, particularlywhenyougoinearlyMaybeforethesummercrowdsarive. Youavoidthe peak-seasonwhilestilenjoyinggreattemperatureswiththeoccasionalshower. Thecourses, thefood, theboardwalksetting … italcomestogether. Butthebiggestreasonwe’ lkeepreturningistheteam atPam’ sOceanCityGolfGetaways. They makeeverythingsimple, afordable, andstress-free. Andattheendoftheday, theiratentiontodetailmadethem theleader intheclubhouseforfuturetrips.
