NECHES RIVER WILDERNESS RACE – KAYAKS Adventure lovers can gear up for the 2026 Neches River Wilderness Challenge Saturday, Aug. 1 for a 22-mile canoe and kayak adventure race between the Lake Palestine Dam and US 79 bridge. The‘ toughest little race in Texas’ has a check in time of 6:30 a. m. for experts and beginners to test their skills in kayaks. The event is held by the Neches River Runners, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation and education which has as its primary activity the organization and staging of the Neches River Wilderness Canoe Race.
