middle of our flowers. We agreed. We had about a 100 people out here from the Dallas area. They were all enthralled with the view and the flowers. They just went on and on about how if I were to expand this, they knew that people would just get so much joy out of it. That got my wheels turning.”
Culver said she had never turned a profit from anything that she has set up or grown.
“ I just thought I could do something from my home and be able to contribute financially for my family for the first time in all these years, doing something that I love, and provide something that could give other people joy – because I know what those flowers did for me in the season of grief and hurting – I thought I could do that for other people and provide that place for them” she said.
According to Culver,“ Edah” is a Hebrew word for either“ gathering” or“ community.”
She said that while she raised her disabled son, who will be 17 in December, she withdrew from the community in order to focus on his care and her family.
“ I think all women sort of do that in motherhood,” Culver said.“ You kind of lose yourself for a little while, you kind of lose your identity in all of that. You have to learn how to balance friendships and your place in the community. I allowed myself to hide away from the community and live in my own little world, but going through that season I went through, I realized how important people are, and having relationships and finding your place within the community, and the places that God wants to use you to minister to other people.”
Culver said it has been her hope for Edah Fields to be a place where people will turn their screens off and engage with one another.
“ I want to have moms and daughters, sisters and friends, spending time together and enjoying one another,” she said.
Culver said the events she’ s hosting draws women of all ages.“ Young women are connecting with older women that would have never met otherwise,” she said.“ It’ s been really neat to watch people who don’ t really have anything in common bond over flowers.”
Culver said she wasn’ t sure what the interest would be, she wasn’ t sure if people would drive out to their home garden.
“ I told God,‘ I’ m gonna plant the flowers.’ I love the flowers, anyways. My friends and my family love the flowers anyway. However big or small he wanted it to be, I was just gonna give it to him and let him do what he wanted to do with it,” she said.“ The interest we’ ve received is showing me that God wants to do something here, I just want to be obedient in that.” Culver said that those interested in attending events at her venue can follow the Edah Fields Facebook page to keep track of what’ s next on the calendar. She notes that their venue is weather dependent and events can be cancelled or rescheduled based on weather. She said, so far, she has not had to cancel anything, but like all gardeners and farmers, she’ s constantly watching the weather.
