EDITOR ’ S LETTER

Summer in the pines

Summer gets popping with fireworks on the Fourth of July and doesn ’ t really cool off until late September in the Piney Woods . Enjoyed lazy , longer days that end with the song of cicadas as the moon begins to rise will soon give way to back-to-school shopping and Friday night lights .
As you shop for school supplies and new clothing , I hope you will shop Palestine first . There are so any great new businesses popping up each week . I hope you ’ ll take time to see if they have what you need before you shop online or drive to another city . Communities and businesses thrive when they support each other !
Speaking of new businesses , in this edition of Palestine Magazine we introduce our readers to 1502 & Sterne Cigar Company and its owner , Palestine native Carlos Wilson . The new cigar company , being booked for all the hot community events , is a unique mobile cigar lounge experience , designed to elevate the customer ’ s gathering with a wide assortment of fine cigars for attendees to enjoy .
Another feature in this magazine is BARC , The Anderson County Humane Society , who is making strides to become a nokill shelter and shares plans for the future its future , including a new on-site dog exercise and play park .
Columnist Chef Simon Webster shares a taste of Italy in summer with his Tasty Travel article and recipes and Chris Keller introduces us to Lambic Beer , sold at Pint & Barrel and only brewed in the Pajottenland and the Zeenne valley regions of Belgium - the last hold-outs of the old ways of spontaneous fermentation
We wrap up our summer fun with the Wiggy Thump Music
Festival in Palestine featuring our cover band Almost Legal . Wiggy Thump is the annual music festival hosted by the wildly successful Whiskey Myers as something of a homecoming for the band . This year ’ s festival will take place at the Anderson County Youth Livestock Pavilion on September 24 . Almost Legal is officially a featured band .
A special thanks to our readers and advertisers for making this magazine possible and supporting local journalist . We hope you enjoy this edition and can ’ t wait for you to see what we have in store for the holidays !
Best wishes and warmest regards ,
