EDITOR ’ S LETTER
Spring has delivered warmer days , and fields of beautiful wildflowers across East Texas . It ’ s the perfect time of year to eat al fresco , try new food trucks , explore nature and just get outdoors . There are so many fun things to do in Palestine and surrounding area this spring . Hiking , biking , shopping and more . So be sure and check out our calendar of event inside . For this edition , we have some interesting community features to share with our readers .
I ’ m most excited to introduce the community to artist J . Kirk Davis . Throughout his 30-year career , he impressed corporate leaders in New York , Los Angeles , and Kansas City with his artistic skill and marketing acumen and later became a Hallmark spokesman articulating its brand experience . The experienced designer has led the creation of many brand and corporate logos . The most widely-known is the Playtex logo , which has been in use for 35 years and contributed untold millions to the company ’ s success .
Rock band Whiskey Myers , whose core members hail from Anderson County , has released new music and we have an article on its new sound and summer tour .
We have an article on WE CARE Palestine , a program with a mission to foster improvement in the city ’ s neighborhoods through a community renewal team , a block leader initiative , and a friendship house initiative . The first two programs are now in place . The nonprofit organization is still raising funds to build a friendship house in one of the city ’ s low-income neighborhoods .
We welcome a columnist , Chef Simon Webster , who used to write a lifestyle column for the newspaper , and has agreed to shared seasonal recipes with our readers .
Columnist Chris Keller shares with us his knowledge on the process of using caves to make beer in Germany .
And we celebrate Bralys Ace Hardware ’ s 90th anniversary . This family and their service to the community has been a shining star in Palestine ’ s cap since its beginning . We salute Stephen , Vicki and their staff for longevity and willingness to serve .
