January has been a big month with lots of great activities in Palestine . The Mayor of Palestine kicked off the new year with the city ’ s first New Year ’ s Eve Mayor Ball . The City of Palestine ’ s Parks and Recreations Department hosted a Family Trout Fishing Day at Blue Lake . The Texas Governor Greg Abbott visited Palestine to help Rep . Cody Harris kick off his campaign for State House District 8 . Palestine High School alum and internationally renowned jazz saxophonist Art Sherrod , Jr . performed a free community concert with his band , sponsored by the Alexander W . Gregg Fund , at the Palestine High School auditorium . The City of Palestine honored Martin Luther King , Jr . with a parade and program at which Waste Management served a free lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers . And the YMCA hosted a winter gala with a Masquerade theme .
