What is it that makes a community , a town , a city … great ? Generic ideas suggest it could be the shopping , food or entertainment . Those are the typical survey answers given . These aspects , that can be found in our city and in any community across the globe , all make a place great . But what makes Palestine excellent is the people and the traditions we celebrate year after year .
Sports traditions in Palestine ; football , basketball , soccer and baseball , are traditions spanning decades , hosted through both school districts and non-profit entities , producing great athletes that have gone on to play D1 and professional sports . Bill Bradley , Boom-Boom Beck , Adrian Pederson , Keith Crawford , Ivory Lee Brown , Bob Muncrief , Kelsie Whitmore , Ila Borders ... These are all athletes that came out of high school sports in Palestine and Westwood dating back to the 1920 ’ s . Still today one can visit any stadium , field or court on Friday night and feel the memories flood back to the sound of the band , the spirit of the cheerleaders and the roars of the crowds that each spur a sense of comradery , home-town pride and a spirit of tradition . With a new generation of motivated athletes paving their way , sports traditions are promising for years to come .
