MEET THE CITY

CITY OF PALESTINE

Justin Florence Mayor
To the Residents and Visitors of Palestine

Welcome to Palestine ! Whether your visit is for leisure or business , we are delighted to have you . Perhaps you have recently moved to or are looking to relocate to our area ; again , we welcome you . Palestine is graced with stately homes , gorgeous scenic drives and a Texas-friendly welcome that offers an authentic Southern experience , making it one of the top Travel Destinations in Texas . Our City staff is here to help make your experience enjoyable .

Palestine is located in the Pineywoods of East Texas and was established in 1846 as a center of commerce and culture . In addition to being a transportation hub by means of rail , ground , and air ; Palestine offers many cultural , historic and outdoor opportunities year-round .
Whether you are shopping downtown or visiting one of our many historical landmarks , please excuse our mess as the City continues its downtown revitalization project . The project is phased out in several phases and will continue for a few years . An unfortunate part of growth and revitalization includes street closures during various project stages , consisting of utility upgrades , street paving and new sidewalks . We are committed to doing our best to avoid disruptions and inconvenience for our citizens and visitors .
We encourage you to visit the Palestine Public Library , which is returning to the historic Carnegie building located at 502 N . Queen Street in the Downtown Historic District . Renovation and restoration of this 1914 treasure is expected to be complete by the end of spring this year . An opening date for the library has been scheduled for the beginning of June .
In addition , to our new outdoor National Fitness Court and Dog Park , we invite you to visit our parks , splash pad , hiking trail at Upper Lake and many stocked lakes .
Our local leaders have continued their emphasis on strengthening our economy in more equitable , sustainable , and forward-thinking ways to provide a quality environment in which to live , work , visit , and play .
